Hello my name is Amy work, and I'm a North Carolina teacher at Rocky River high school today we're going to be going through the end-of-course assessment the release test for math one we're going to start with an on calculator section so for the first few problems I think sixteen of them we won't be using a calculator Jessie's bus ride to school is five minutes more than two-thirds of time of Roberts bus ride which graph shows the possible times of Jessie's and Roberts bus rides okay, so we know that Jessie's bus ride is five minutes more okay so plus five minutes more than two thirds the time of Roberts bus ride okay so another way to write this would be y equals two-thirds X plus five okay this is our slope and this is our y-intercept so if you look at the graph you're trying to find the one that matches up so first let's look at our y-intercept, so that's where it touches on the y-axis okay so here so if you'll notice the only ones that actually have the y-intercept at five are B and C, so we can cross off a and D and next we're going to check the slope, so the slope should be two over three that means we rise two, and we run three so up two over 3 up 2 over 3 and this graph seems to be correct but let's double-check the other one up two over three notes that's not in the right spot, so their correct answer would be B number two what scenario could be modeled by the graph below alright so for this problem if you notice for a B C and D the answers are talking about pounds of apples Y and oranges X okay, so that means that this is these are going to be our oranges right here and these are going to be our apples okay another thing is that for me the wording for a b c and d is really confusing it's hard for me to look at the wording and look at the graph and understand what's going on, so instead I'm going to look at the graph, and I'm going to see if i can write an equation for this graph and then use that to help so if I'm looking for y equals MX plus b okay the y-intercept b is at 5 okay my slope roughly if I'm looking at it, I can use these two points right here because those seem to be right where they cross okay, so my slope would be risen 2 over 1 okay, so that would make my slope 2 over negative 1 which would be negative 2 okay, so that looks like my equation but here's the thing do you guys see how there it's shaded right here okay that means that this shouldn't be an equal sign all right since it's a solid line, and it's shaded below the line so if it's shaded below that means it's going to be less than and a solid line means it's or equal to okay, so that's my equation for this line now if I look at all of my answers right here do you see how it says is at most 5 is at most 5 is that most 5 is at most 5 okay is means equals right or the sign whatever is in place for equal so less than or equal to greater than or equal to, so that means that I need 5 to be by itself on the right-hand side, so I'm going to move this over to the other...
